Sonali Patel CV

Sonali Patel was born in India where she acquired the Bachelor of Arts, Economics at Bombay University. She has travelled extensively throughout Europe and her paintings and sculptures have a strong European influence. In 2002 Sonali studied for a Certificate IV in Visual Arts, AIT Arts and managed to travel throughout Italy and sketched enthusiastically for an exhibition at Artistic License Gallery & Studio in 2003. During 2003 Sonali also studied at Central School of Art and also the Roma Mitchell Arts Centre for her Bachelor for Visual Arts (sculpture).  Initially Sonali studied Fashion design before moving to a career in arts specializing in painting and sculpture.  The influence of fashion can be visualized in her sculptures and colour plays a vital role in her paintings.

For her latest exhibition at Artistic License Gallery and Studio titled “Florescence” in June 2005, Sonali states that her sculptural works are dominated by the female figurative form derived from the fashion figure. Sonali feels that working in Fashion Design previously has influenced and motivated her ideas.  She tries to abstract the mannequin-like shapes and stylize them, thereby inducing qualities of effortless grace, glamour and style.

Using mediums like bronze, ceramics, wood and limestone; she transforms the figure to achieve different textures and new effects.  Sonali is presently studying for the Bachelor of Visual Arts at AIT Arts, and she also studies painting at the Central School of Art, Norwood.

Clearly the influence and appreciation of fashion can be visualized in this current exhibition titled “Florescence
