Murray Edwards CV Murray has been involved in art for many years although he has had no lengthy professional training in art. He studied to become a teacher at the Bathurst Teachers College, participated in a number of TAFE courses, met some influential teachers through the Flying Art School in Queensland and the Central School of Art in Adelaide. A highlight of his career in art was when he spent an entire year painting and drawing with other artists in Scotland. After some personal traumas Murray decided to devote less time to full time teaching and more to art. He travelled extensively in India and Nepal and the personal experiences and education of travelling and living in those areas brought about permanent changes in values, priorities and goals. In 1994 he returned to his studio where he has seriously painted and grown in confidence in the use of colour as well as a more certain belief in the value of his works as forms of powerful communication. More and more people began to seek out his paintings and a steady flow of success began. Murray has had many solo exhibitions since 1995 in both Queensland and South Australia and he has contributed to numerous group exhibitions (particularly in South Australia). He spends many hours in his studio and strives to create paintings that demonstrate his style and love of painting. The majority of Murrays works are in pastel although he occasionally works in oils, acrylics or mixed media. He uses theses mediums without the conventional tools, for they restrict his creativity. His original paintings are sought by many clients throughout Australia as well as in the USA, UK and New Zealand. His landscapes are generally concerned with the quality of light; specifics of place becoming unimportant. His figure studies in conte, pastel, charcoal and ink reflect moods of models. His paintings are highly sought after and his style is recognized and respected by many art enthusiasts.
